Future Authorizers in Alabama: Finding Common Ground

At our 2015 NACSA Leadership Conference in Denver, NACSA invited leaders to talk one-on-one with us about their vocation. In our Story Suite, these conversations focused less on the WHAT of authorizing and more on the WHY of authorizing: why we do this work, and why we believe it is making a difference. These leaders are just a few of the many who inspire and drive our One Million Lives campaign.

What follows are edited transcript excerpts of our conversation with two leaders learning about the potential to authorize charter schools in Alabama: Eleanor Dawkins and Melissa Snowden, both members of the Montgomery County School Board since 2006. The board has not yet made a decision to authorize charter schools.
