Authorizers Have A Key Role to Play in Reinvigorating The Charter Movement

In early July, NACSA joined more than 5,000 charter school leaders and advocates at the 2019 National Charter Schools Conference, where the focus was on reinvigorating the charter school movement.

In her opening remarks, National Alliance for Public Charter Schools President and CEO Nina Rees stressed the need for more high-quality charter schools, noting the sector must ensure potential charter school founders aren’t undone by application processes that have become “overly cumbersome and fraught with political tension.” She also spoke to the need for charters to expand into new regions—especially suburban and rural areas that need just as much educational innovation as urban areas where charter school are already thriving.
